May Auction Highlights
May Whisky Auction is now live!
With Islay on everybody’s mind it’s great to see a vast selection of whiskies from this iconic island in our May auction.
Undoubtedly the most exciting bottle we have uncovered is the legendary 1967 Largiemeanoch Specially bottled for The Howgate Wine Co Ltd. This is regarded as the best Bowmore ever bottled from this Islay distillery, presented in a simple bottle with a hand written label that reflects the liquid inside. Another stunning gem from Bowmore is the Cask Strength Bicentenary for the Italian market by Fecchio & Frassa. We also have a beautiful Sherriff’s Ship label circa 1970, one of the earliest releases from this legendary series.
From Port Ellen we have several variants from Douglas Laing Old Malt Cask and their Old & Rare Platinum selection. Laphroaig is represented well with numerous outstanding releases like the 1980 27 year old and extremely rare 1967 by Signatory with only 182 bottles produced. Then there is the 30 and 40 year old, along with the 19 year old exclusively bottled for Friends Of Laphroaig to mark the 190th Anniversary of the distillery in 2005.
More Islay whiskies include two Bruichladdichs distilled in 1970 one of which was bottled for their 125th Anniversary. For Ardbeg we have a Guaranteed 30 year old presented in a unique box, a 1974 Whisky House one of 190 bottles and a committee reserve from 2002.
Macallan staying strong starting with a 1950 hand written label by Atkinson Baldwin, several Anniversary malts including multi vintage and a no vintage along with various 18 year old sherry casks from the 1990s. You will also find a 1966 Speymalt and an official 1965 17 year old bottled in 1984.
Other significant whiskies worth a mention are two different examples of Ladyburn 1973 a Talisker 1955 by Gordon & MacPhail for their CASK series. For the first time we encounter a remarkable Tamdhu 15 year old from the 1970s. The Springbank 25 year old specially bottled to celebrate Frank McHardys 40 years of distilling makes a long overdue appearance. Again we have a 1966 Ben Nevis this time aged for 26 years and a lovely 40 year old distilled in 1962.
We have a tremendous volume of old G&M bottlings that include Macphail 1937 50yo, Macphail 1945 44yo, Macphail 1951 39yo, Old Elgin 1947, Mortlach 1938 and 1966, Glenlivet 1940, Glen Gordon 1939 50yo and Glen Grant 1963 & 1968 Book of Kells Decanter.
I think that is enough jibber-jabber, we are off to Islay now to enjoy a few drams with good friends. As always we hope you enjoy the auction as much as we enjoy putting them together.
Best of luck
